About Tanners

Welcome to Tanners Historic Cafe, where history meets heartfelt hospitality in the heart of Wartburg, Tennessee!

Our story begins over a century ago in 1923, when the Tanner family opened their iconic store and sundries in this charming downtown building. Built in 1906 as Morgan County's first bank, the Tanner Building was lovingly restored by the Morgan County Tourism Alliance in 2019 and reopened as a cafe in 2022. Today, it stands proudly on the National Register of Historic Places, featuring original pharmaceutical cabinets, the vintage soda fountain, bar stools, booths, and bakery case that transport you back in time.

In July 2025, Jacob and Heidi Stabler proudly took the reins as the new owners, breathing fresh life into this community gem. On July 9th, we reopened with a revamped menu bursting with comfort food favorites: juicy burgers, crispy wings, tender fried chicken, hand-scooped ice cream, desserts, and more—all crafted with local flair and served with a smile.

We're thrilled to introduce Wartburg's first full bar and the first legal by-the-drink establishment in Morgan County! Sip on craft beers, signature cocktails, and your favorite spirits while soaking in the cozy vibes. Whether you're grabbing a quick lunch, enjoying a family dinner, or celebrating with friends, Tanners is your spot for good eats, great drinks, and unforgettable memories.

Come experience the perfect blend of nostalgia and new beginnings. We're family-owned, community-focused, and always ready to welcome you like one of our own!
